Mise-en-scene and task 3

 Task 3
The opening of Stranger Things sets the scene in a secret science lab in the 1980s and straight away shows that the genre is sci-fi and horror. We see a man in a white lab coat running down a dark corridor, which makes him look like a scientist in danger. The low lighting, flashing lights and metal doors create a tense and mysterious mood. The use of props like machines and security doors suggests experiments and secrecy. The actor’s fast movements and scared expression show that something has gone wrong. This communicates danger and fear, making the audience feel curious and uneasy about what is happening in the lab.

Stranger Things

Shows who the characters are and how they feel. Dark colours can mean sadness or danger, and make-up makes them look more realistic.

Sets the mood. Bright lighting feels happy or safe; dark lighting feels tense or scary. Warm colours show warmth or anger, cool colours show sadness or calm.

Close = connected, far apart = conflict.

Show where the scene happens and add meaning. A messy room might show stress, while certain props (like photos or weapons) tell us more about the story.

Nike

People wear modern streetwear — lots of casual outfits, hoodies, trainers. The clothes make it look like a regular crowd in the city, so the advert feels real.

It’s quite bright and colourful. The lighting makes everything clear, so you see faces and movement well. The mix of colours (shades of clothes, backgrounds) adds energy

Dancers move from among the crowd, they break out into dance. They’re placed among everyday people, so it surprises you when they dance. Some dance in the foreground, some behind — that layering gives depth.

The setting is a city street or public place crowded with people. Props are minimal — maybe phones, street signs, buildings — everyday objects. The normal surroundings contrast with the extraordinary dancing, making it more striking.
